Circuit bending audience

There are numerous videos on YouTube about circuit bending: people that show their work, experiments, live videos etc. For the last three days, I’ve been reading the comments under “What is circuit bending” video (which quite popular, I’ve seen it embedded in may CB blogs/pages). There are three main categories of commenters:

those who like cb stuff

those who are neutral towards it

and those who are totally against it.

I find quite interesting the last category. These are people that think that circuit bending is not music, it’s just chaotic nonsense noise, and circuit benders are “hippies and geeks that mess with technology” (as one of the commenters mentioned, this is how Microsoft was invented!). There are similar comments relating to the sexual habits of circuit benders – they are quite amusing.

It’s quite important to take those comments into consideration. In the end, they represent a portion of the audience, which is quite significant for popular culture.

  1. Εγώ πάντως είμαι από αυτούς που γουστάρουν το CB, ακόμα και αν δεν έχω ιδέα ως προς το χειρισμό του…
    μου αρέσουν πολύ οι ψευτο-ηλεκτρονικοί ήχοι των παιχνιδιών, και να σου πω, πλάκα πλάκα, και κάποιων οικιακών συσκευών… τις προάλλες λειτούργησα 1′ το παλιό βίντεο που κληρονόμησα από τον παππού μου και μετά απλά είχε αξία ως ρολόι, κάτω από την τηλεόραση…
    μόλις έβαλα μια βιντεοκασσέτα, ακούστηκε ο ήχος της κεφαλής, και των μηχανημάτων που έπιαναν τη μαγνητοταινία, που είχα τόσα χρόνια να ακούσω… ύστερα πατάω το eject και ακούγεται ένας μακρύτερος μηχανικός ήχος… ανάμεσα σε σοκ αναπόλησης και φλας μνημών, συνειδητοποίησα πως αυτή η μηχανική ηχητική ακολουθία έχει μελωδικότητα και μάλιστα πολύ ιδιαίτερη… κάτι που βέβαια αντιλαμβανόμουν εγώ, αλλά όχι και ο πατέρας μου που ήταν παραδίπλα… έπαιξα 2-3 φορές και ύστερα το παράτησα…

    κοίτα και κανένα βίντεο ή δίσκο του Pascal Comelade που έπαιζε με μια ορχήστρα παιχνιδιών… έχει ενδιαφέρον, αν και αυτός δούλευε περισσότερο με ακουστικά όργανάκια… μέχρι εδώ η σοφία μου……..
